Here http://www.empireonline.com/News/story.asp?nid=24610 an interview in the 20th birthday issue of Empire was announced. I don't have this, but I have read an abstract about it in German here: http://www.herr-der-ringe-film.de/v2/de/archiv/archiv_34816.php

That's what it says:

- Filming will start in March 2010.
- The movies will include something about the history of Erebor.
- Beorn and the spiders of Mirkwood will appear.
- 3D is still an option, but there are concerns about it if it would catch the feelings of the trilogy.
- Del Toro won't try to imitate Jackson's style.

Does anyone have this magazine and can confirm this?

It's good that he won't imitate Jackson's style, but I hope the style stays canon with the trilogy. I don't want it to not feel like the same universe. It will be cool to see Del Toro's flavor in it, but it can't change much, IMO.

I think they know what they are doing Wink

Del Toro knows that many of the fans he's going to get from this movie is old PJ's LotR-Triology-fans, so they are wanting a film similar to the LotR-Triology Cool
At least I would think of that Razz

Let's just hope he's not thinking like, "Oh, this could been so much better if it was this way" to much... It could ruin the feeling PJ made...
But I also hope he will change a little from PJ, so we don't get the same movie twice

I just think of movies that have changed style because of a different director. The worst one I can think of is X-Men: Last Stand compared to the first two. I know Brett Ratner is not even half the director Del Toro is, but you catch my meaning. It just didn't feel like the same franchise. The only thing the same was the cast.

Peter jackson Is Co-writer and Executive Producer so we should have
no worry.

This confirms we will have Beorn and the Mirkwood Spiders.

This confirms to me the likelyhood of the first film having a prologue showing some of the history of the Lonely Mountian.Showing It,and Laketown,Smaug's attack, and leading to Gandalf and Dol Guldur would be a great opening to the Hobbit

I guess what I see is two directors with very unique and artistic styles colliding. Even though Jackson is working with Del Toro, it will still look like a Del Toro movie. He's too big to be contained by a producer.

It started right before the official announcement that the Hobbit was given the green light and has continued to be a speculation until now. I don't think it's a bad thing, it will be released in conventional theatres as well as 3D and probably also IMAX.

3D seems to loose the serious effect in my opinion, considering movies like "My Bloody Valentine" and "Spy Kids: 3D" were based off it. I wouldn't have a respect for the movie if I saw it in 3D, it makes the experience cheesy and obviously for a desperate attempt for revenue because 3D sounds so cool when it really isn't (In my opinion). IMAX is another story, because movies like the Dark Knight were made from it and it is usually awesome quality.

I seriously don't see why they shouldn't do it in 3D... beceause it's exactly the same, just a different format, and in the cinemas it's always shown in 2D too...
