For me I think Dol Goldur will be the most interesting part for me... Since I don't know the story there, except from that Gandalf and the others wins and defeats the Necromancer (not kills, defeats)

But the whole book is good, so I think I will love this film anyway Very Happy

I'm excited about Dol Guldur. As long as they don't focus too much on trying to make it big and grand. I keep getting more excited for this movie the more info they give!

Good, good news. I played the Dol Guldur level in The Battle for Middle-earth II and was very impressed. They'll probably make Dol Guldur like that, and it will be awesome! I agree, they shouldn't make it so big. Although of course it won't be that minor.

How's this for an idea? Make the film mirror the tone and storyline of the book as closely as possible. Have Sam Gamgee tell his grandchildren the tale. Keep the songs. Keep the creatures talk. Have one grandchild ask at the end: "Oh Grandpa, do giant spiders really talk?" Sam: "Well, Mr Bilbo told me that himself, when I was about your age," (smiles), "so it must be true!" So what we've just watched over two movies is Bilbo's own "bedside story" version of his adventures, retold by Sam to a new generation - of children! The Hobbit should take itself seriously without taking itself TOO serious. Something closer to the Wizard of Oz movie (not TOO close) rather than the Lord of the Rings in tone.

Thanks Spidersbane. In the book the scene manages to be both scary and slightly silly. I remember being both worried and amused when I first read it many moons ago. I still feel the same when I read it nowadays. It's a genuinely exciting scene. I'm sure it can be pulled off as cinema - but the movie maker needs to have a sure hand. We don't want it to be too silly or too dark either. Let's not have hugely-evil-spiders, just big-talking-hungry-spiders.
