What do you think are the options? Except making it in 3D or not. And do you believe that's true?

If they do make it in 3D, then there's no reason Ian Holm can't play Bilbo. Unless he just doesn't want the job. They can make him look as young as they want and show him show him doing things that an elderly actor couldn't do on set.

That's what they did with Beowulf, right? The actor was a pudgy guy but they showed him as a muscle-man doing backflips all over the room.

I think if you're comparing it to Beowulf, that was a motion capture movie, which is the effect you're referring to, and it was done in both standard and 3D.

I don't want it to be exclusively 3D, I've never seen a 3D film, but I doubt it will take over the industry as a standard form of making movies.

Wondering if part of the reason they want to do this in 3D is because of the problem with Dwarves? Seeing as though there are so many for the whole movie, maybe they feel part of the problem will be to have it look even more "realistic" than Lord of the Rings did in terms of the contrasts in size.

Just a thought. And, I think John Rhys Davies should play Gloin, just make him look more weathered.

Ok...

3D = more than just a flat picture, it actually comes out at you like it's really in front of you.

Motion Capture = that digital look that Beowulf and Polar Express had.

I think the two are getting confused here.. and I don't think that John Rhys Davies should play Gloin.

No, John Rhys Davies shouldn't play Gloin and Orlando Bloom shouldn't play Thranduil

Well, I don't know what to think about it then. Is 3D just a gimmick, to make the audience feel like they're part of the battle? To see arrows flying at them, or whatever? I know this, Tolkien doesn't need gimmicks to work.

If the 3D thing really makes us feel as if we're part of the movie, then there definitely are going to be parts which will be too scary for kids, and maybe for grownups too. The Hobbit was written geared for children - I wonder what this 3d will do to its innocence as a fantasy story.

I don't think the two are so easy to be confused.

3D -> creat virtual scenes and roles

Motion Capture -> all-dimensional, multitiered and wide-ranging visual effect

I'm all for them making the Hobbit into 3D... the 2D version will stay exactly the same, so if you don't like the 3D format, the 2D's still there for you... 3D is just an added service...

And if you think that 3D just consists of movies like Beowulf... I'd suggest you watch Journey to The Center of the Earth, In my opinion it totally revolutionized 3D making it compatible in the live action world!

so 3D: Yes! anyone can take it or leave it!

No offence, 3D is stupid. The Lord of the Rings wasn't 3D, The Hobbit will not be 3D.

if they can make it in 3D than i would say they should go forward. There will be more fun in 3D.

That's crazy, I think. Why not make it just like having a miniature backgrounds? If all The Hobbit's production will be in 3D such as the monsters, heroes and the scenes, it looks unreal. Please give justice to this movie. If they will going to remake it on 3D, it should have a class to what Harry Potter or Lord of the Ring had.

3D is unessassary, but not out of bounds. It'll be a fun film either way.
