It certainly seems quite serious. What has New Line been thinking all this time? Are they really out to scam everyone? It looks like they're in for a battle royal this time, with no real hope of winning. And their credibility is shot.
However...there is always hope. Even if The Hobbit cannot be done through New Line, it still may be possible to work something out with another film company, one whose reputation is not botched. As long as Jackson stays in the driver's seat and doesn't panic or bail...

Maybe I should sue New Line, everybody else has. I'm mentally distressed at having to wait for these movies.

I guess if production doesn't start until 2009 there is time for something to work out. No more delays, please...

I know.

The purpose of having Del Toro direct the films was (according to Jackson) "to not make the fans wait any longer".

At least this may mean Jackson will direct after all, since the film will be postponed anyway...

According to marketsaw, "Time/Warner is seriously considering a large cutback in personnel at New Line"

Pure speculation: maybe The Hobbit is wandering off from New Line to Time/Warner?
