Say it Ain't so James!
http://www.collider.com/entertainment/news/article.asp/aid/8186/tcid/1
I agree with the author that James might have been informed not to confirm until GDT and PJ get to do it themselves (perhaps because of the whole GDT was directing it, then wasn't, then probably was, then maybe wasn't ,then finally YES!)
Honestly, I think that they will do fine even if McAvoy doesn't take the role, although he would be a fool not to take it if he was offered the role. As long as Jack Black doesn't get it *shudders* or *gulp* Daniel Radcliffe *vomits into a nearby wastebasket*. If they make "The School of Hard Hobbit Holes" or "The Hobbit From Hogwarts" by casting one of these second rate and too type caste actors, I think I would go from "fishing on brandywine bridge" to "hiding under brandywine bridge while cursing the world and going all Gollumish" lol _________________ Many that live deserve death, and some that die deserve life. I don't really want McAvoy to get the role. I'm probably saying it too much, but I really want Martin Freeman. _________________ Facebook

You know, although I am sure to fan the flames of digression here; I must say that I am against Martin freeman playing the part of my dear Bilbo. Don't get me wrong, he certainly LOOKS the part quite well, but can he act it also? To me he just doesnt have enough of a resume to really be able to tell one way or the other, and Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy pretty much royally sucked for the majority of the movie, and in that movie his acting was pretty second rate.
Perhaps he only needs something like the Hobbit to show off his acting chops, but I dont see it happening based on what I have already seen. Also, not sure if you all were aware of this, but when Freeman was approached about this possibility awhile back, he told the interviewer that he thought he would make a good Bilbo since people had always told him that he looked like a "goblin" growing up. A Goblin?!?!? WTF??
McAvoy on the other hand would have been a great choice for his acting ability, but maybe not so much his looks. _________________ Many that live deserve death, and some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them Frodo? |

Just saw the news and I said "YES!" as soon as I saw it. I am now relieved. Bilbo should be in good hands, although Daniel Radcliffe still needs to be kicked out of the list. Thank goodness. I am so glad. _________________ Maegnas is my name, I am the spiders bane

I didn't even know he was in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I've only seen him in the British version of The Office. He seems like a good actor in that show, in the comedy sense. To me I see a lot of potential in him if he decided to break out of the comedy realm and into something more serious. I think he could handle it. If they don't choose him I'd rather it be someone other than McAvoy or Radcliff. Someone who is a little more unkown, like Freeman. _________________ Facebook

Ya Grey Pilgrim, I love your opinion, it gives me a whole new perspective, but i think that Martin Freeman could have a chance in making it in this film. Him saying that he looks like a goblin dosn't mean anything, Orlando Bloom (who bytheway was an actor pulled striaght from school to do this film) didn't know anything about middle earth, and he's read the books now. Same with Ian McKellan, who read the books on set sometimes after he was acceped role as Gandalf.
I think it to be funny that Freeman would say such a thing... It sounds pretty sarcastic coming from a guy WHO HAS been in comedy movies and shows. I loved The Hitch-hiker's guide to the Galaxy (although it was incredibly stupid! but hey! Zoolander and monty python: quest for the holy grail were stupid! and ther freakin' hilarious!). I'm more than positive he knows what a hobbit is! |

Also, Viggo Mortenson was not even aware of Lord of the Rings until he became part of the films. His son read the books, and told him how cool it was, but he didn't really know much about it. _________________ Facebook
