Any Orlando Bloom fans here who want to see Orli get a nice big role in both of the films?

Legolas appears shortly in Mirkwood as one of the wood elves, though his name is never mentioned.

Not a big fan of the actor. He plays the part, but I don't want them to give him a big role when he doesn't really have one. I wouldn't mind a cameo.

What they could do with him is put him among one of the groups of elves that is feasting in the forest and vanishes when the dwarves run towards them, causing them to be lost. He could also be one of the elves Bilbo sneaks past when he and the dwarves are trapped in the Elven King's Halls. It would be cool to see him in the Battle of Five Armies, doing awesome fighting like in LOTR. So he should be there but not with a huge part.

theoretically he would appear in a lot of the scenes in the Hobbit, because, I believe, he is some kind of elven prince... But I'd really love to see him taking a commanding role in the battle of the 5 armies Smile

Yeah he's the son of Thranduil, Legolas should be at the Battle of Five Armies. I'd be a little disappointed if he wasn't. He could have a part in the second movie too, when Mirkwood is attacked and Gollum escapes. Not a major role, but a nice little link to LotR.

When Gollum escapes they could have Thranduil talking to him before he sends him to the Council of Elrond in the Fellowship.

Well doesnt that take place a little longer before then the fellowship thing, because Gollum leaves, or escapes, and thats all happening while strider goes somewhere i don't know or dont remember and Gandalf goes to the shire.

Essentially, Legolas goes to the Council of Elrond to inform Elrond that Gollum has escaped.

Legolas would use the bow he first used in FOTR, the one he had before he got the new one from Galadriel. It would be so neat to see him slashing with his knives. LOTR all over again.

No, he was fighting with the knives in Moria. That was right before the classic encounter on top of the troll.

I'm not sure if it is specified in the book where he gets the knives. I think they are mostly just knives they had him use in the movies.
