Super news! You tell 'em Peter Jackson! It seems that Peter Jackson is always there to say otherwise about negative news. And the only characters I can think of who they would be casting are Arwen and Galadriel.

Here is the full article for the female role: http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2009/12/05/34501-exclusive-hobbit-casting-1-female-role/#more-34501

Another interesting news: "Jackson did emphasize that casting directors for The Hobbit are currently auditioning unknown actors for the role of Bilbo. "

This is truly wonderful news! I was a bit worried about the previous news (about the filming being delayed) but this is amazing news. One thing though. I just hope to god that they aren't really considering Daniel Radcliff for the role of bilbo. I'm not saying he's a bad actor, he does great as Harry Potter etc, but he is just TOO DAMN YOUNG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean seriously, even elijah wood was a bit young to play Frodo, but he did a GREAT job, so that was ok, but Radcliff is what, about 18-19? WAYYYY too young if you ask me!

I'm fine with an unknown. They might have a younger guy that looks a like like Holmes. Martin Freeman is my favorite runner up though!

I'm excited to see some news finally... I guess that del Toro meant this Christmas when he said we'd have news for Christmas!

Ian McKellan is returning for the films as Gandalf.
Hugo Weaving is most likely returning and Cate Blanchette is being considered for returning, said by Peter Jackson. http://www.mtv.com/movies/news/articles/1627796/story.jhtml

Elijah Wood was 18 in fellowship of the ring
Agreed though. I think daniel would be a little too goofy looking for bilbo.

We know Andy Serkis will be bringing Gollum to life again.

The big question Is what will they do with Saurman. With Christopher Lee
not willing It appears to fly to nz again this leaves 3 opotions

1:Try to convince him to change his mind provided It Isn't health reasons.

2:Shoot the white council scenes Involving Saurman In England

3:recast Saurman

Unfortunly I think opotion 3 Is more likely. They might If they have to go with
opotion 3 get him to voice Smaug.

They could easily shoot the white council in England, at least if there's inside-scenes. Cristopher is an important character so I think they will concider all possible solutions.

But if Saruman is supposed to fight in the Dol Goldur scenes it's a bit tricky...
